CamelCamelCamel.com is a website I use frequently to research prices to make sure I’m getting the best deal I can on an item at Amazon.
Years ago, Black Friday and Cyber Monday was the time to do all your shopping. Prices were genuinely good. Then retailers got kinda tricky sometimes and would raise prices just to bring them back to the normal price to appear to have a sale.
Here’s an example:
You want to buy a bag. Normally, it’s $100. You wait for Black Friday and think that you’ll maybe get it for $80 or something similar. So you check in once a week or so and see it go up to $120. On Black Friday, it lowers back down to the normal price of $100, but it’s called a special.
I’ve had this scenario happen several times, but never really wrote down and tracked the prices so I couldn’t prove it. This is where CamelCamelCamel comes in.
Step 1: Copy the URL (web page address) of your item from Amazon.
Step 2: Go to CamelCamelCamel.com.
Step 3: Paste the URL into the search.
Step 4: Review the price history of your item.
With this particular product, we can see that the best price it ever had was on January 22, 2020 and was just above $70. We can also see it went to about $80 for Black Friday (Late November). Maybe we can use this to attempt to predict another discount in January of 2021?
If you look right above the graph, you can create a price watch without even having to make an account on their site. So we can make one to email us immediately if the price goes below $75. We get an email and click/tap the link, click buy, and we’ve gotten a $30 or so discount.
If you want to make an account, you can actually give it the URL of your wishlists on Amazon and it’ll monitor the items for price drops and automatically email you notifications as well!
The way they keep the site going is they create an affiliate link that gives them a few pennies any time you buy the item from Amazon after following their link. It doesn’t cost you any more money and you’re helping them to help you in the future. I’ve saved literally hundreds of dollars using their site and I’ll happily click that link!
